Charlotte Ranked Among Top 10 U.S. Destination Cities

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, January 31, 2018

Auston Woods Apartments in CharlotteAt No. 10, Charlotte, N.C., was among the U-Haul Top 10 U.S. Destination Cities in 2016, rising four spots from its previous destination ranking of No. 14, according to the latest U-Haul migration trends report.

Charlotte witnessed an 8.9 percent increase in arrivals over 2015 to become one of the top 10 busiest U.S. cities for incoming U-Haul trucks.

“We have wonderful weather, all the major sports teams and job growth galore,” said Brad Pruitt, U-Haul Company of Charlotte president. “Charlotte has become a banking center and is consequently the nation’s second largest financial center. People are packing up their U-Haul trucks and heading to The Queen City in droves.”

U-Haul Destination Cities are ranked according to the total number of arriving one-way U-Haul truck rentals to a city in the past calendar year. Destination Cities do not account for departing traffic and thus do not necessarily reflect growth like U-Haul Growth Cities. Destination Cities reflect the volume and regularity of do-it-yourself movers coming into a community.

But don’t just take our word for it, here is what some of our residents are saying:

"I love living here in Auston Woods. This apartment complex is located in the Northlake area in Charlotte, NC and is right up the street from Northlake mall and Northlake shopping center. You have everything you could possibly need not even a mile from your apartment!! I also would like to add the fact that it is a GATED community, there is an on-duty police officer, and the leasing staff are quite friendly and are always willing to keep you happy and make sure all of your needs as a resident are met. A few features that are not common in other apartments around the area are large garden-style tubs in the bathroom, washer and dryer INCLUDED, large chef-style kitchens, walk-in closet and huge balconies!!! You also have the option of having a garage!! It has truly been a pleasant experience living here for the past 3 years and don't plan on moving anytime soon!!!"

"Fantastic place to live and maintenance is top notch. Have lived here for almost 6 years now."

"This is the first apartment complex that I have lived in since moving from home. Everything about the property is great. Every time I go to the front office I am greeted with a smile and with helpful advice. I would and have recommended this property to many people. The property has 2 community houses and does events monthly for renters. I wouldn't change anything about it."

"My family and I have lived her for almost 3 1/2 years. We love this apartment complex. The customer service is great overall. There has been minor issues with maintenance delays, but the staff works really hard to rectify any issues that their residents may have. Being a college student, it has been helpful to utilize the business center and the front office has helped with any fax or scanning needs I may need for school or just in general. It has been a good run living here, thus far."

Retire in Charlotte, NC

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, January 10, 2018

Auston Woods Apartments in CharlotteCharlotte is a region that's equal parts old-fashioned southern charm and high-energy cosmopolitan bustle. You'll still hear "y'all" dropped into casual conversation, but Charlotte is a metro area on the rise, and has its own culture, culinary sophistication and unique feel that's making it a more enticing place for people from all over the world to settle down. This melting pot effect makes Charlotte an easy area to break into. You're not from here? Well neither are most people you'll meet.

Charlotte has become a place filled with new restaurants to try and events that attract people from all over. It's a standalone destination area now, no longer living in the shadow of Atlanta or Charleston, South Carolina. Though Charlotte has evolved significantly in the past decade, the transformation is only continuing, as evidenced by the numerous construction cranes across the skyline.

You'll frequently hear the word "manageable" used to describe Charlotte. Its climate is more manageable than Florida's and its housing prices and living expenses are more manageable than New York City. You can take your family out to eat without spending a fortune, and on the weekends, free events are easy to find.

Rankings

U.S. News analyzed 100 metro areas in the United States to find the best places to live based on quality of life and the job market in each metro area, as well as the value of living there and people's desire to live there.

Charlotte, North Carolina is ranked:

#14 in Best Places to Live
#22 in Best Places to Retire

Effectively Downsize Your Home for Retirement

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, January 03, 2018

Auston Woods Apartments in CharlotteIf you haven’t managed to save up enough to make the best of your retirement, downsizing is a path you can take to unlock some much needed finances.

If you haven’t managed to save up enough to make the best of your retirement, downsizing is a path you can take to unlock some much needed finances. Most retirees secure their retirement income through downsizing and moving to a smaller property that not only costs less to maintain, but is also located in an area that delivers more comfort and satisfaction.

Rather than getting yourself worried and wondering, “When can I retire to get social security benefits?” you could start today by choosing the option of downsizing your home. Here are assured steps to achieve success with that objective.

Have clear goals for downsizing after retirement

The typical person has two goals for pursuing a downsizing after retirement. There’s usually the financial goal which is to make profit by releasing equity from the home. The other is a lifestyle goal, which is often aimed at moving to another home in order to conveniently switch to a different lifestyle. An example is downsizing so you can move to a better neighbourhood or somewhere closer to your family.

It’s important to know your goals and keep them in mind throughout the downsizing process so that the results you are after are what you actually accomplish.

There’s a right time to downsize.

Timing is essential. If you sell your bigger home when the property market is down, you are going to end up with a bad deal that might end up severely compromising your goals. When attempting to sell your home at the right time, there are a host of factors to consider such as interest rates, worth of your property, the economy, and others.

Also, if you choose to downsize long before your retirement, you have to learn how to properly manage your finances in order to avoid exhausting your resources before retirement. It’s usually best to delay downsizing until you need the money or are capable of saving/managing finances for the long haul.

Pick ideal home and location for relocation

Downsizing doesn’t necessarily have to imply a downgrade. You can move to a more serene neighborhood, or a quainter space that offers more comforts than your former home, but with less space to manage. Therefore, carefully consider your options to ensure you are getting a good deal. There are lots of things to think about looking for a new home location such as weather, neighbourhood, access to medical care, cost, view, et cetera.

Have a realistic perspective on real estate costs

Selling a home can be unpredictable and expensive. Sometimes, what you expect isn’t what you get. To get the best results when trying to sell your home, consult reputable real estate agents who can help appraise your home and let you know how much you realistically stand to gain upon sale. They can also propose ways to boost your home resale value.

Try out the new location

If your goal has always been to downsize after retirement, there’s a high chance that you already have a good idea of where you’d like to relocate to. If that’s the case, why not try out the proposed location before taking the final leap.

Compare maintenance costs

Downsizing isn’t just about switching to an apartment that costs less. The new home must be cost effective in every ramification and that includes costing less to maintain. If you downsize to a smaller house that costs more or equal to maintain, you haven’t actually accomplished anything with your downsizing plan.

Consider taxes

If you are relocating to another city, state or distant location, it’ll be smart to move to one that has a more friendly tax scheme in place. It can be a great ease on your finances if your new home makes it possible for you to pay less on taxes.

Don’t forget that downsizing possessions can also cut costs

So, you’ve moved to a smaller house, but, heck, you still own three fuel-guzzling SUVs? It’s almost like trying to store water in a basket.

Rather than focus solely on downsizing your home, how about also looking to downsize on your possessions? Things you don’t actually need or other properties or belongings that cost more to maintain than they add value to your life are better off sold off.
